How do I farm astral diamonds? I’m almost level 70 or lvl 70 already, what do I do? What do I do to get strong in Neverwinter? Answers to these questions can be varied, and sometimes not very helpful.
In this guide, I am going to detail one way of getting to self-sufficiency in Neverwinter.
Let me explain what my idea of self-sufficiency is. Firstly you are making at least 72,000 astral diamonds a day. Second, you are an asset in delves. Lastly, you have access to all content in the game.
Getting the right gears
Let’s start by understanding what kind of gears you need. Do you understand your class yet? Do you already know how you are supposed to play it? Priority one for you should be knowing how to play your class.Read your class forums, watch videos on youtube, check out some Neverwinter twitch streams, you need to get a sense of how your class is best played.
There will always be unique builds to each class, but I strongly suggest that your first character should have the most effective build available, i.e. DPS builds for GWF, SW or utility builds for GF, DC or OP. It’s ok to have fun builds, but fun builds are for people who already know the game well. As a new player, you should just stick with the best build for your class.
Check the collections window to know which artifacts you need. If you have read the forums, then you probably know which artifacts are recommended for your class and why. There will always be cheaper options, so be sure to check which artifacts you want.
You get one free artifact from the artifact recovery quest. You get an additional free artifact when you do the dwarven king quest line (although, you may not want this one), and another free artifact (sigil) from the vault of the nine quest line. Usually, your free sigil suits your class well, it has all the stats you need and its ability is useful for you.
When you do the vault of the nine quest with one character, you unlock his sigil for all your character. So, before choosing a class for your second character, please check which sigil you would like to have on your main character.
You can claim unlocked sigils from the reward NPC in Protector’s Enclave.
It is always best to start the game with the correct artifacts, it’s not cheap to refine artifacts so make sure you are not wasting your time by refining an artifact that does not suit you.
Grinding your Astral Diamonds Phase 1
The easiest way to grind out astral diamonds early on is by doing dungeons and skirmishes. Your first two dungeon and skirmish runs will net you a considerable amount of rough astral diamonds. Each succeeding run will only award you a smaller amount until you net the maximum of 7,200 from each category.
Invoking has changed significantly since mod 10 was introduced. Praying to the gods will reward you with bonus rough astral diamonds which you can claim when you do any rough astral diamond-producing activity. These bonus rough astral diamonds stack and do not expire but it has a maximum of 100,000.
Dungeon, skirmish, PVP rough astral diamond rewards
As soon as you hit lvl 60, you should start doing at last two dungeons and two skirmishes daily. With dungeons and skirmishes alone you should net around 15k RAD a day. The more characters you have grinding dungeons and skirmishes, the better. PVP can get you some additional astral diamonds if you have the time for it. Most lowbies would tend to avoid doing PVP because of the long queues and the often demoralizing matches.
After Hitting Level 70
Is your second character already at lvl 60? Get him to 60 and do the vault of the nine quest ASAP!
At this point, you should start working on your campaigns. Boons count for so much in this game. You should start working on unlocking your boons in all the campaigns. This is your daily grind now, along with farming astral diamonds. Well of Dragons and Icewind dale will probably be difficult for you, so it’s best to do these areas with a party.
Grinding your Astral Diamonds Phase 2
After hitting lvl 70, you should be able to start farming more astral diamonds. This is where we introduce the third way to grind it out, and that is by salvaging gears.
Gears for salvaging can be obtained from epic dungeons skirmishes, demonic encounters, and Tower of Celandine in Sharandar. There are other ways to get items to salvage the above mentioned are the most common ways to get it.
Epic dungeons might be a little over your head at this point, so it’s better to stick to normal dungeons for now. You can probably start joining Kessel’s retreat, this is a relatively for an epic skirmish, as long as you have one strong character in your team, finishing it should not be a problem.
You can probably begin doing Kessel’s Retreat, this is a relatively easy epic skirmish. As long as you have one strong character in your team, finishing it should not be a problem. Another option is to join Prophecy of Madness or Throne of the Dwarven King.
Start doing Demonic Encounters in Well of dragons and Dread Ring. You’re probably already doing this in Dread Ring because this is a daily quest there. But, if you have extra time you will want to continue in Well of Dragons, just find an instance where there are plenty of people farming demonic encounters. The idea here is to farm ring for salvaging.

The tower of Celadine is not reliable but it has a chance of dropping an epic off hand that you can salvage. Since you are doing Sharandar dailies, you might as well do tower of Celadine because of the possible epic gear loot.

Getting to 2,500 item level
Hitting 2,500 item level means that you have access to all contents in the game. This is the minimum item level for Epic Demogorgon, which has the highest minimum item lvl requirement in Neverwinter.
Although this is about getting to 2.5k ILVL, this is not about rushing to it. This is about getting to 2.5K the right way.
You should reach 2.5k ILVL by having:
- All epic artifacts, and artifact equipment
- Two-slotted rings
- Slotted shirt and pants
- All enchantments at least at rank 7
- Normal Weapon and Armor Enchantments
- Epic armor peices
Be sure that you have the right artifact equipment. For dps it is usually a Lostmauth set, for tanks it could be a Lathander’s set. Whichever set you decide to have, make sure that it is the one you refine.
The best way to get two-slotted rings are from Underdark skirmishes and Demogorgon. You get two slots with rings that are at +4 or higher. It might take a while to drop, but just keep grinding.
You may also craft two-slotted rings with the jewel crafting profession, but you need to reach level 25 jewel crafting first.Crafting the two slotted rings could prove more difficult than farming Underdark delves.
Slotted shirt and pants can be bought from the auction house or from the Underdark store. I would suggest buying them from the AH, they are not that expensive. If you have been grinding astral diamonds as I suggested, it should not take you more than a week to get them. Save your Underdark currencies for epic gears instead.
Rank 7 enchantments are relatively cheap in the AH. Weapon and Armor enchantment can be expensive but it is worth saving for.
Don’t buy enchantments that do not help you. Go for the best enchantments for your class, take your time amassing the astral diamonds you need. You waste time and astral diamonds buying the wrong enchantments. The AH charges 10% of any sale you make there, and you will find it hard to trade away weak enchantments.
Epic armor pieces should be straight forward for you. You get elemental seals from the epic skirmishes, Underdark skirmishes, and demonic encounters that you have been farming. You may also use your demonic ichor to buy Drowcraft gears.
**Note: I did not mention it here but having an augment companion or companion with bonding runestones greatly increases your strength but not your item level. It is a good idea to at least have an augment companion, it helps so much.
Grinding your Astral Diamonds Final Phase
When you reach 2.5k ILVL you should be able to easily produce at least 72k astral diamonds a day.
In this phase of astral diamond farming, non-main characters should still continue doing in normal dungeons but they can stop doing skirmishes.
Your main character, who is now at 2.5k ILVL shouldn’t have a hard time finding an epic dungeon or skirmish party. Just do two epic dungeon runs, and as many epic skirmishes as you need to amass enough gears to salvage so you max-out your daily refine limit on at least two characters.
In case you didn’t notice, epic gears dropped from dungeons and skirmishes are bound to account, so you can transfer some of them to your second character and have him salvage those gears.
There you go! 2.5K item lvl with proper gears, producing 72k astral diamonds a day. You have now achieved self-sufficiency, and are now ready to beat the game.
